In memory of Alex Moorhead (Nations, 2014)
We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Alexander Dimitri Moorhead Dimancesco on 19 October 2021 in a mountaineering accident.
Alexander Dimitri Moorhead Dimancesco died on 19 October 2021 in a mountaineering accident. Alex was born in Mexico in 1996 and grew up in Switzerland. He attended La Chât from 2008-2011 and graduated from Nations in 2014. He subsequently obtained a BS degree in Geosciences from UNIL.
Alex was a talented skier, photographer, environmentalist, musician and alpinist as well as an accomplished linguist. He was training to become a mountain guide while working as a ski patroller in the winter and for the tourism office of Anzère in the summer. He skied and climbed with skill, grace, and agility. He pursued his alpine passions with intelligence, passion, and huge respect for the mountains.
Alex loved to breathe the crisp morning air, to feel the warm sunlight waking up the world, to watch a pink sunset over snow-capped mountains. He was selfless, made us laugh, brought warmth into the room, and made all those he met feel better. He was beautiful and kind and caring. He inspired us.
Alex enjoyed the time he spent at Ecolint, made many long-lasting friendships and appreciated greatly his teachers and what he learned from them.
Alex is survived by his parents, siblings, aunt and uncle: Deirdre Dimancesco (LGB, 1981), John Moorhead (LGB, 1982), Nicholas Moorhead Dimancesco (La Chât, 2016) and Emeline Moorhead Dimancesco (La Chât, 2019); Martin Moorhead (LGB 1984), Debby Dimancesco and grandmother Maria Guinea.
