J’ai été très inspiré par l’esprit de respect dans la rencontre des élèves et enseignants d’origines, de cultures, langages et religions différents, par la promotion humaniste et culturelle et le respect de l’égalité et des droits de l’homme.
Après ma scolarité à La Grande Boissière, j’obtins en 1966 le diplôme de Maturité Suisse en science naturelle. Je poursuivis et terminai en 1973 les études de médecine à l’Université de Genève. Après un travail comme volontaire en Afrique occidentale, je suis retourné en 1974 dans mon pays d’origine, la Suède, et me spécialisai en Chirurgie générale et en Urologie. À la suite d’une série de travaux de recherche cliniques et microbiologiques (PH.D.), je pris une position comme médecin-chef à l’hôpital universitaire de Malmö et de professeur associé à l’université de Lund. Durant les années, j’ai publié plus d’une centaine d’articles scientifiques et chapitres de livres.
Ce travail a été reconnu par plusieurs organisations comme le prix Albert Schweitzer pour l’enseignement de la Société International d’Urologie.
Parallèlement, durant les années, j’ai eu la possibilité de participer à une série de missions pour la Croix-Rouge Internationale (CICR, Fédération) dans le secteur des urgences humanitaires (Burkina Faso, Niger, Angola, Rhodésie/Zimbabwe, Congo, Cambodge). J’ai aussi passé plusieurs années dans les secteurs du développement et de l’enseignement médical (Vietnam, Éthiopie et Tanzanie) au sein d’organisations comme l’agence de coopération et développement suédoise (Sida), l’OMS et l’université, et en tant que privé.
Maintenant, après plus d’un demi-siècle de travail dans les secteurs de la médecine et la chirurgie à l’hôpital universitaire, je garde un lien avec un groupe de recherche et d’enseignement à l’Université de Lund. Je profite aussi pour voyager, écrire et poursuivre mon intérêt pour la photographie, un hobby de longue date.
Ayant passé la plus grande partie de ma scolarité à la Grande Boissière, il est difficile de choisir un événement particulier. C’est l’ensemble des faits, l’environnement, l’esprit général, les sports, les réunions au théâtre grec qui ont donné une impression sur ma future vie professionnelle. J’ai été très inspiré par l’esprit de respect dans la rencontre des élèves et enseignants d’origines, de cultures, langages et religions différents, par la promotion humaniste et culturelle et le respect de l’égalité et des droits de l’homme. Je fus aussi très inspiré par certains enseignants de l’école, comme de l’université, pour leur sens éclectique et de tolérance et manière de conduire l’éducation.
Je ne peux souligner suffisamment l’importance du secteur de l’éducation en général, et des écoles internationales en particulier, de donner un sens humain, humaniste et humanitaire à la vie, promouvoir la paix et la justice et défendre le respect et les droits de l’homme. Laissez-vous pleinement inspirer par ces notions, et saisissez aussi l’occasion pour apprendre plusieurs langues.
I was very inspired by the general spirit of respect in the meeting of different backgrounds, cultures, religions and languages of both students and teachers, the humanistic and cultural promotion and the respect for equality and human rights.
I graduated from La Grande Boissière in 1966 with the Suisse federal diploma (Maturité Suisse) in natural science. I studied medicine at the University of Genève, graduating in 1973. After half a year of volunteer work in West Africa, I returned in 1974 to my home country Sweden to specialise in general surgery and urology. After a series of clinical and microbiological research projects (PhD), I became a senior consultant at the University Hospital of Malmö and an Associate Professor at the University of Lund, Sweden. I have published over 100 scientific articles and textbook chapters over the years.
This work was eventually recognised by awards such as the International Society of Urology Albert Schweitzer Teaching Award.
In parallel, over the years, I had the opportunity to make a series of missions for the International Red Cross (ICRC, Federation of RC societies) in the field of humanitarian emergencies (Burkina Faso, Niger, Angola, Rhodesia/Zimbabwe, Congo, Camboge). I also spend several years in medical and teaching projects (Vietnam, Ethiopia, and Tanzania) with the support of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), WHO, the University and privately. This work was eventually recognised by awards such as the International Society of Urology Albert Schweitzer Teaching Award.
Nowadays, after more than half a century in the field of medicine and surgery at the university hospital, I am still affiliated with a research and teaching group through Lund University. I also spend time travelling, writing and running my life-long interest in photography.
As I did most of my schooling at La Grande Boissière, it is difficult to choose any special event. The environment, the general spirit, the sports, and the assemblies in the Greek theatre, all marked in one way or another my future professional life. I was very inspired by the general spirit of respect in the meeting of different backgrounds, cultures, religions and languages of both students and teachers, the humanistic and cultural promotion and the respect for equality and human rights. I was also influenced by several of the teachers at the school as well as at the faculty of medicine for their open-mindedness tolerance and guidance in training.
I cannot underscore enough the important role of the educational sector in general, and the international schools in particular, in promoting intensively a human, humanistic and humanitarian meaning of life, peace and justice, and the defence of human rights. Get deeply inspired by these issues, and profit from learning several languages as well.
