Heidi News "Une biotech romande décroche la timbale d’une licence mondiale" August 2021
My activity is devoted to the development of innovative biomedical discoveries. After a PhD in Neurosciences at the EPFL, I founded, together with my husband Frédéric Lajaunias, LASCCO SA, a company that propels academic discovery-stage inventions into life science ventures. For the past years, I have been managing LASCCO’s spin-offs. Sepstone Diagnostics has been our first success. We developed- a rapid blood test for the early diagnosis of sepsis, and the test is now commercialized through partnerships. I then focused my activities on another LASCCO spin-off, Combioxin SA, to develop a revolutionary, non-antibiotic drug (CAL02) combating severe and resistant infections. On August 25th of this year, we announced an important agreement for the commercial rights to CAL02, with Eagle Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: EGRX), a US fully integrated pharmaceutical company specialized in launching innovative therapies in the hospital acute care space. My daughter Delara and my son Bostan are lucky to be students at Ecolint at La Grande Boissière Campus.
My favourite Ecolint memory: I was in fourth grade. Les Marronniers had recently been inaugurated. True to the pristine fragrances that hallways and classrooms diffused, Christophe Roux, my class teacher, introduced us to new universes every week. Egyptian rhythms would make us dance to the discovery of mathematics; the lyrebird of Jacques Prévert’s “Page d’Ecriture” would whisper the magical secrets of wordplays; Chaplin, in turn, would make our heart laugh forever. Every year, the creative initiatives of my teachers and mentors at Ecolint magnified my thirst to learn. The joyful, caring friendships among teachers in the Middle School spontaneously rubbed off on the students’ conduct and they inspired life-long friendships with my peers.
Teachers and friends at Ecolint taught me to always pursue excellence. The greatest gift of Ecolint was to provide foundations to express, with cordiality, ideas and constructive opinions, to be courageous in the unknown, and to embark on ambitious endeavours for the well-being of all.
My words of wisdom for Ecolint students: Follow your dreams, have trust in your competence, work, work, and work hard.
