Learn more about me :
I work for a pharmaceutical company called AstraZeneca where I help make new drugs for cancer patients. More specifically, I develop diagnostic tests in order to select patients most likely to respond to our drugs; our aim is to give the right drug to the right patient, a concept known as Precision Medicine. I love my job and the impact I have on patients’ lives as well as the intellectual challenge.
More than specific memories, I recall becoming passionate about my subjects at a young age thanks to some very gifted teachers: the middle school team of Maurice, Max, Allen and George gave me the confidence boost I needed to be able to shine academically and both Mr Anthony and Mr Nussbaumer were influential in me becoming a scientist. I also have special memories of friendships, people I cared about deeply and still do.
Ecolint taught me to speak out when things weren’t right. It also installed the fundamental belief that everyone should have equal opportunities irrespective of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation or background. This is very much part of who I am, as I suspect is the case for the vast majority of Ecolint students and alumni.
I’m not sure I would do anything very differently; answering this question makes me pause and appreciate how lucky I’ve been up to now.
My words of wisdom for Ecolint students: you’ll have heard over and over again how special you are and what a fantastic opportunity you have learning side-by-side with classmates from so many different cultures. However cliché, there is a truth to it and your experience is unique. Always remember that the sky is your limit and if you work hard enough and care enough then you can achieve your dreams.
