Vous connaissez certainement le Théâtre grec de La Grande Boissière, emblème de l'histoire de l'Ecolint, construit en 1956 par des enseignants et des élèves sur le modèle du théâtre antique d'Epidaure.

Ce que l'on sait moins, c'est qu'il a servi de point de départ décisif à la création d'un théâtre professionnel d’envergure ! En 1957, des comédiens genevois passionnés y jouent Hamlet et, portés par le succès de la représentation, fondent ce qui deviendra le Théâtre de Carouge.

Grâce à Alejandro H. Rodríguez-Giovo, l'Archiviste Emérite de la Fondation, des images de notre Théâtre grec figurent en ouverture du court-métrage réalisé par l'association Retrorama pour les 40 ans du Théâtre de Carouge.

You have probably heard of the Greek Theatre at La Grande Boissière, a symbol of Ecolint’s history, built in 1956 by teachers and students following the design of the ancient theatre of Epidaurus.

What is less known is that it served as the decisive starting point for the creation of a professional theatre! In 1957, passionate Geneva actors staged Hamlet in the Greek Theatre. The performance was such a success that they went on to create what later became the Théâtre de Carouge.

Thanks to Alejandro H. Rodríguez-Giovo, Emeritus Foundation Archivist, images of our Greek theatre now figure prominently in the opening scenes of the documentary made by the association Retrorama as part of the 40th-anniversary celebrations of the Théâtre de Carouge.
