From Classmates to Lifelong friends: The Journey of Three Alumni
Some friendships begin in the classroom and continue to flourish for a lifetime. At Ecolint, we often say that our community extends far beyond the walls of the campus. The story of three alumni who reunited on campus last September beautifully illustrates that sentiment.
More than forty years after meeting as students, Reem, Isabelle, and Melissa returned to Ecolint the place where their lifelong friendship began.
Reem and Isabelle first joined the school in 1972. “Miss Rushton was the teacher who welcomed me in Grade 6,” recalls Isabelle. “That’s where I first met Reem, who was in the same class as me.”
Just a few years later, Melissa joined the school in 1975, spending the next six years immersed in a vibrant and supportive community. “I enjoyed a wonderful education, warm friendships, and a thousand new experiences,” Melissa remembers. “The diversity of nationalities and exposure to different cultures bonded me to solid friendships.”
After graduation, life took them to different corners of the world. Melissa returned to the United States, Reem continued her studies at Webster University, while Isabelle pursued higher education in Italy and France.
Though time and geography separated them, their friendship endured. Today, Reem and Isabelle live in Geneva, while Melissa is in Indiana. Yet the distance has never dimmed their connection.
“Our annual Christmas cards to each other, along with postcards and emails, have been a way to keep the friendships alive,” says Melissa
“To this very day, we continuously share our news via emails and all the means our digital era has to offer,” adds Reem. “To reconnect has never been easier...an email, a message, a photo, or a video from my Ecolint friends always brings a smile to my face, rekindling fond memories.”
Even decades later, Ecolint remains a meaningful part of their lives. “I really appreciate the Alumni newsletters,” Melissa shares. “It’s wonderful to see old friends I’ve lost touch with, and even recognize a few teachers in the photos! I especially enjoy seeing the updates to the school and getting a glimpse of Ecolint today.”
Their story reminds us that while time passes and distances grow, the bonds formed at Ecolint remain as strong as ever. For Isabelle, Reem, and Melissa, what began as classmates’ camaraderie has become a lifelong friendship.. one that continues to define time and distance.
