Alumni Launch AI “Swiss-Army Knife” for Trip Planning
It all started with a casual conversation between two students at the University of Copenhagen. A simple exchange of frustrations, a spark of inspiration and from that moment, Cheap Voyage was born.
At its core, Cheap Voyage is driven by the desire to make travel easier, more affordable, and more sustainable by automating the hair-pulling process of searching for flights, trains, and trip information.
The project is led by Nicolas Lejeune and Peter Latsenia (both CHA 2022), third-year Data Science students, along with their partner Oscar. Together, they share a common vision which started with a simple fact: planning a budget-friendly trip, especially as a student, is exhausting.
“You end up with dozens of tabs open, Google Flights, multiple pages for multi-city routes, train websites, accommodation platforms, and then blogs or forums for recommendations. What should be exciting quickly becomes time-consuming, stressful, and frustrating.” points out Nicolas.
Cheap voyage offers a solution to these problems: a single platform that centralizes and automates the search for different modes of transport, and destination recommendations. The goal is twofold: save time and make travel more sustainable.
“Travel shouldn’t be a luxury or a headache,” explains Nicolas. “We want students to be able to explore the world without breaking the bank or wasting hours searching.”
By automating the search process, Cheap Voyage not only helps travelers find the best options quickly but also makes it possible to compare with sustainability in mind, something the team cares deeply about.
His words of wisdom for current students looking to start their one project: Just do it! Simple 3 words. If you can find like-minded students that share the same vision, or even if you feel comfortable enough building your own product from the ground up, you by all means should. It is not easy, but it is fun.
