The President and Vice-President of Ecolint’s Student Council in 1971 were Jean-Claude Masangu (left) and Richard Corbett (right), photographed here with the UN flag in front of the Grand Bâtiment. Massangu eventually became Governor of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Central Bank, and Corbett a prominent politician in the United Kingdom, where he was elected Member of the European Parliament and Leader of the European Parliamentary Labour Party.

A collage of photos from an early, multitudinous ISA Day. First launched in the mid-1960s, the International Schools Association Day, later renamed SDF (Students’ Day Fair), was a fund-raising kermesse run by students for students, with the encouragement and support of committed members of staff. Its philanthropic goals were commendably outward-looking: the beneficiaries were other schools in countries less prosperous than Switzerland, such as Burundi, Congo, Nepal and Chile. For many years, SDF was supervised by Frank Lunt – an LGB Laboratory Technician with a remarkable record for running extracurricular activities. During that time, SDF raised over 300,000 Swiss francs for the schools it supported. Sadly, the event petered out after Lunt retired in 2006.
